Block E is our original block of Sauvignon Blank. It produces an incredible expression of Leelanau terroir and wines that are literally fought over by our customers. Several humorous stories emanated from our risky choice of actually planting this varietal. During the MSU winery establishment conference of February 2009 I inquired about the viability of growing Sauvignon Blanc in Michigan. The response from the expert gave me pause as he bluntly stated, "plant 10 vines at the highest spot and start praying..." Knowing we had 2000 vines ordered and planned for one of our lower grades was a bit concerning. The rest is history as mother nature must have surely smiled on us and continue to produce Sauvignon Blanc in both a Sancerre (stainless) and Pouilly-Fume (oak aged) style.
